I. Introduction
A. “Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Space is the breath of Art.” – Frank Lloyd Wright
B. Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the greatest architects of all time using interior and exterior spaces as one. Ralph Waldo Emerson was a famous essayist of the romantic age, where self-development was the theme, and self and nature are one.
C. Thesis statement: Although both men had different professions, they were both inspired by the ideas of transcendentalism and their creations, philosophy, and relationship with life and art are guided by those ideas.
II. Transcendentalism’s core belief is in the inherent goodness of people and nature.
A. Transcendentalism is a system developed by the writings of Immanuel Kant, a philosopher. It is based on the idea that in order to understand the nature of reality, you must first examine and analyze the reasoning process that governs the nature of experience (“Transcendentalism,” 2019).
1. Transcendentalism is a philosophical movement that developed in the late 1820’s and 1830’s in the Eastern United States (“Transcendentalism,” 2019).

III. Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement.

B. Emerson published his first essay “Nature,” dividing nature into four usages: commodity, beauty, language, and discipline (“Nature (essay),” 2019).
1. These distinctions define how humans use nature for their basic needs, their desire for delight, their communication with one another and their understanding of the world (“Nature (essay),” 2019).
C. Emerson argued that philosophy, art and morality out to be derived from one’s soul, which was connected to that of all man-kind (Lulos &Langosh, n.d.).
IV. Frank Lloyd Wright was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator who believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, which was a philosophy he called organic architecture (“Frank Lloyd Wright,” 2019).
A. Wright celebrated the beauty of nature in a literal sense, believing that the world’s creatures and landscapes are intrinsically beautiful in their own right (Cronon, 1994).
B. Wright declared once to his apprentices that nothing was more detrimental to an architect’s vision than to have “deep in his heart one wish and have to conform to the conditions and demands of another” (Cronon, 1994, p. 13).
C. “Organic Architecture” was a phrase coined by Wright, which was architecture that is famous for designing structures that blend into their surroundings in innovative ways (Hooray, 2016).
D. Fallingwater, one of Wright’s most famous residences, was constructed over a thirty- foot waterfall (“Frank Lloyd Wright,” 2019).

B. Architecture in today’s society is incorporating more nature into their building instead of taking it out.
