Many businesses (and individuals) use SMART goals to help achieve desired results. Particularly in Healthcare, the method of setting SMART goals is effective to help professionals realistically and consistently achieve their goals. It is very easy to set goals but it’s not as easy to achieve them. This SMART system helps to ensure the goals are successfully met as it is a structured plan of action.
SMART stands for: Specific, Measurable, Achievable/Attainable, Realistic/Relevant, and Timely. The chart attached shows an example of how a SMART table can be constructed using these sections.
Specific: Setting a specific goal increases the likelihood that it will be achieved than if you set a general one. To set a specific goal you must answer the six “W” questions:
