– Managing an organization is no easy fete. Effective decision-making is a critical role in the process. The daily decisions that CEOs and managers make will in fact affect quality, morale, productivity, success of employees, operations, and success of the organization (ACHE, 2012).
– Even as evidence-based informed decision-making gains momentum, managers still confront barriers and challenges including but not limited to the lack of resources, and time constraints. As such, improving decision-making skills and effectively using toolkits to enhance and improve accountability, knowledge transfer, and a questioning organization is critical (Karsh, 2009; Rundall et al, 2007).
Ideas for Solution-The informed decision toolbox that Rundall et al (2007) created can help the manager to better create a situation wherein he/she can arrive at the best decision for the county clinic as this relates to Medicaid recipients.
– In this case study the clinic’s budget has been cut by 15% and the clinic provides care to its Medicaid recipients.
– The goal/challenge here then will be to manage so as to identify the medical services that could/should be eliminated and maintain or create those that will best serve to address the health care needs of the clinics’ patient population.
